- Start getting back to the old routine. Summer is often a time of relaxed routines and bed times. A few weeks before school starts begin getting your child ready by getting in the bed around the same time as you would on school nights.
- If your child is starting a new school, see if you can visit the school. Even if you just drive by the school, this will help your child get excited about school again.
- Review your child's IEP. If you had your child's IEP meeting at the end of school, make sure you re-read your child's IEP. Does your child need support services? What does that look like for this year? Are there any changes that you need to let your child know so he or she will be prepared for the new year?
- Be positive. A new school year can cause anxiety for both the student and parents. By remaining positive it will help your child feel positive about the new school year.
- Attend Meet the Teacher night. Start out the new year by getting to know your child's teachers. Make sure they know the best way to contact you. Communicating any concerns you may have with your child's teacher will help you feel more confident about the new school year.
Hope these tips help you and your child get ready for a great new year. I look forward to seeing you all soon!!
